Kate Strickland

Kate Strickland

Campus Mental Health Education Fellow

Kate has a background in Occupational Therapy working in Mental Health and in Education. She combined her career passions and became a Child Life Therapist at the Royal Children’s Hospital in 2016. Seeing the gap in service provision pre and post hospital, Kate started the organisation Healing Hearts Beyond to provide a community-based Child Life Therapy service to support infants and children along with their families in managing the stresses associated with procedures, hospitalisations and medical trauma.

Kate has always had a strong interest in patient advocacy and raising awareness and knowledge in mental health literacy. She was excited to be appointed Mental Health Education Fellow for the Campus Mental Health Strategy in 2023.

At Mental Health Central we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, gather and work. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

We acknowledge all people with a lived or living experience of mental ill-health and recovery. At the Campus, we particularly acknowledge children, young people, families, carers, and supporters. We recognise their vital contribution and value the courage of those who share this unique perspective for the purpose of learning and growing together to achieve better outcomes for the Campus, staff, sector, and all people of lived experience.
