Family Centred Care (FCC)

When a child or young person requires care, it affects not only them but their family and loved ones as well.

Family-centred care (FCC) is a holistic approach to child health and wellbeing that considers and supports the environment around the child, including families, carers, and siblings. FCC focuses on prevention and early intervention by opening 

Studies have shown that programs designed to support families benefit children by:

  • improving health and treatment outcomes 

  • improving early childhood development

  • improving attendance and performance at school

  • decreasing the cycle of violence, including perpetration of future violence

  • increasing social cohesion 

With the help of families, lived experience advisors, and staff, we're developing education, tools, and resources to support families' mental health and wellbeing. 

Examples of our work

We have developed a Family Wellbeing Model designed to start conversations with family members about their mental health and wellbeing and provide follow-up support.

We are developing an eLearn for staff to equip staff to open up a conversation with family members using our Family Wellbeing Model.
